Raindrop Technique is a procedure for applying essential oils to the feet, back, and spine. It is a form of aromatherapy. It was developed during the 1980's by a naturopathic physician, D. Gary Young. In developing the methodology, Young worked with a Lakota Elder. Raindrop incorporates certain Native American concepts, including a special form of massage called "feather stroking" which is similar to a massage technique called "effleurage".
During portions of the Raindrop procedure, essential oils are dropped neat (undiluted) on the back along the spine from a height of about six inches. This is where Raindrop gets its name.
The theory of dropping the oils in this manner is that the oils, which are said to possess electromagnetic properties, are allowed to fall through the electromagnetic field of the receiver before touching the skin, thus the oils are thought to interact with the receiver's electric fields in a possibly beneficial way before being absorbed by the body through the skin. Temple Style Lomilomi is an awakening within each and every cell, being present right here, right now, in this very moment or Manawa. Another name for this spiritual work is the Ke Ala Hoku or "Pathway to the Stars".
This massage technique uses Pule or Prayer to help release anything that is not in alighnment with our clients highest self; to dislodge cellular memory of low vibrations and replace those low vibrations with love, light and aloha. It is a movement on the body with nurturing and soul support.
My training came from Cuky Choquette Harvey who was trained by Auntie Margaret Machata and most recently from my friends Tom Cochran and Donna Jason at Sacred Lomilomi. (Some information was quoted from Donna Jason at Sacred Lomi)
